Colette Patterns have released a new skirt pattern. Selene - a classic pencil skirt. I have been lucky enough to get an advanced copy, so I've made one up in denim for casual autumn style. It is perfect timing as my autumn wardrobe is somewhat lacking (to say the least!). Like many of us, I don't fit the same size across my major body measurements - I can range up to three sizes between my waist, hips, thighs and butt! Thus shopping for ready to wear skirts and pants is a nightmare. It is really satisfying to find the time to sew and make a skirt that fits and is comfortable. In saying that - this skirt is still a little big around the waist. But, hey, what a great excuse to make another (or eat more cake!) I finished this skirt in the morning, then happy with my make - it got put to the test in the afternoon. Running after kids and the dog, lugging bags at the supermarket, housework and all those terribly practical and non-glamourous parts of being a mum.. I was comfortable and felt stylish all afternoon - two big ticks for me! And the pockets work a treat.....can't be a mum without pockets! Then when the man-about-the-house came home he threw more than one compliment my way about my new skirt (normally he doesn't even notice new clothes on me....). This skirt has definitely passed road testing with flying colours!! Having passed road testing, I'm now thinking what other skirts I might make with this pattern. So it's handy that the Selene pattern has options - I could make it corporate, casual or glam and choose between no pockets, welt pockets, or fun diagonal seam pockets I do love the diagonal pocket option and really think that they 'make' the skirt. I love simple classic styling with little surprise details. So I'll probably stick with those....and I simply can't cope without a pocket to get me through my day!
